Dungeon Settlers Resource Farming Guide

Almost every beginner question in Dungeon Settlers is a resource question - how to get clay, where gold comes from, why the food keeps running out, what bones are for. This page answers each one with the actual source.

Storage first, then farming. Resources sitting in a settler personal inventory are unusable by anyone else - the storage building is what turns individual pickups into a colony economy.

Clay, logs and herbs - the surface gatherables

Clay and other building materials come from surface deposit nodes around your settlement - press Z to highlight all harvestable objects, then drag-select a few settlers to auto-harvest everything marked. Wood logs and herbs follow the same pattern, and herbs feed both rations and research.

Deposits around the base replenish, but the deep resources do not: gemstone veins and the mysterious mandrake are dungeon finds, so keep one expedition slot reserved for gathering runs.

Gold - recruiting and trade

Gold is the recruitment currency: new members are hired from the recruit list for gold, with randomized traits - rerolling your roster costs money, so plan recruitments around party gaps (a missing healer or fire-magic slot, for example).

Dungeon merchants also trade in gold. Selling surplus dungeon loot - especially gemstones from deep floors - is the fastest legitimate income once your party can survive depth two and beyond.

Food and rations - the expedition timer

Field crops become meals for the settlement and rations for expeditions. Rations are what actually sustain a dungeon run, and camping supplies extend it - running out mid-floor is how parties end up downed with no Aid Kit left.

Humans receive bonuses to cooking, so a human-heavy settlement feeds itself more efficiently. Build dining infrastructure before expanding your roster: more settlers means more mouths before it means more workers.

Bones and dungeon-only materials

Bones and similar dungeon materials drop from the creatures of the deep - the remnants of magical experiments, from golems to acid-spitters. They are expedition loot, not surface gatherables: if you need bones, the answer is a deeper, better-equipped run.

Remember depletion: repeatedly clearing the same floor reduces its drops. Rotate between floors or push depth rather than farming one room forever.

FAQ

How do I get clay in Dungeon Settlers?

Harvest surface deposit nodes near your settlement - press Z to highlight harvestables and drag-select settlers to auto-harvest.

How do I earn gold?

Income comes from selling dungeon loot to dungeon merchants, especially gemstones from deeper floors. Gold is spent recruiting new members.

Why does my food keep running out?

Every settler eats, and expeditions consume rations plus camping supplies. Farm fields continuously and build dining infrastructure before recruiting more settlers.

Where do bones drop?

From dungeon creatures on expedition runs. Bones are dungeon loot - push floor depth with a prepared party instead of looking for them on the surface.
